What 100 Years Of Change Looks Like [INFOGRAPHIC]

As we rapidly approach the 100 year anniversary of the Federal Reserve (signed into law on December 23, 1913) and the 16th amendment (ushering in that IRS favorite – the income tax) a question arises: what was life like a century ago?

Conveniently, the following infographic breaks down some of the main ways in which life has changed in the past 100 years: from life expectancy, to marriage, education, employment, wages, entertainment, sport, and shopping (we finally find a time when JCPenney was actually popular), all the key ways in which the world and life in the U.S. has changed in the past century are mapped out.

Once Upon A Day: Cowichan Bay

A collaboration between two across-the-street neighbours in Cowichan Bay; internationally known film maker Nick Versteeg and retired composer and arranger Eric Smith both of whom tapped into their local networks and found nearly 100 musicians and singers who were willing to go anywhere and do anything needed to make this project a success.

It is no mystery why so many first time visitors to The Cowichan stay to enjoy its four distinct but gentle seasons, the award winning wines, the plentiful farm gate fare, freshly caught seafood and a range of cuisines in its many restaurants and pubs. As Canadian poet Linda Crosfield wrote “You know you’re safe here, meandering through the seasons, home at last, there’s nowhere else to go.” Four distinct but temperate seasons, vineyards, a “fresh food” philosophy, a thriving arts community and abundant business opportunities – The Cowichan promises the best of the good life.

How Your Father’s Music Indicates What You Listen To Today

Do dads really have an influence on the musical tastes of their offspring? This amusing flowchart, created for Father’s Day in honor of dads who rock, predicts the kind of music you prefer by the tunes your father listened to when you were growing up.

However, as a parent, I realize that many times my influence on my teenager has an opposite effect. So the music Dad listened to probably influenced your musical tastes, but if you’re a rebellious contrarian, that exposure might have convinced you to seek out music that’s exactly opposite.

If you’re lucky, your dad exposed you to a variety of music during your formative years, giving you instant familiarity with lots of the music you hear in today’s media-saturated environment. That musical prowess would be yet another blessing to thank your dear old dad for on Father’s Day.
